This is a framed oil painting in a rectangular shape, with a harbour boat scene, drawn by Halls in the 1800s. Altogether the artwork is approximately 21 3/8” in width, 17 3/8” in height, 3/4” in thickness (other measurements see the label below). It has a complex structure with 10 visible parts including the frame, glass, oil painting artwork, double mat, frame backing board, hanging kit, frame backing tapes, V nails, points/tabs and inscriptions. Each component has different raw materials (e.g. wood, iron, ochres, etc) and manufacture technologies that are worth discussing piece by piece. In general, the making process should be designing measuring sizing→ frame making→ mat cutting →mounting the painting →glazing the glass→securing and sealing the backboard→ assembling the hanging kit.
