Framed Charity Shop Oil Painting

This object is a rectangular oil painting on canvas fitted into a wooden frame. The canvas is kept taut over the stretcher with nails and the painting itself is held into the frame with metal brackets. Two nails and twine are attached at the back so that it can be hung on a wall. The complexity of this object lies in the multitude of materials, including canvas, wood, various paint colours both on the canvas and on the frame, synthetic twine, metal leaf and an assortment of metal fixtures. It follows that a variety of methods were used to compose each aspect and were likely applied over some period of time.
