Marionette

The marionette is a typical example of souvenir marionettes and was purchased from Chatuchak market in Bangkok, Thailand. Movement is enabled by fixed strings attached to the helmet and body from the control bar, with three further longer strings attached to wrists, legs and thigh pieces that allow for more fluid movement. 16 wooden pieces appear to form the wooden structure, joined together by strings and nails. The decoration of the marionette is extensive, yet only pieces that animate the marionette appear painted. Layers of fabric decorate it further with the red, wrist, chest and back pieces heavily embellished with sequins, various threads and imitation gemstones and beads. A possible assembly process for the marionette has been suggested.
