Winston Sectric Mantel Clock

Figure 1: Front and rear view of the Winston Sectric mantel clock

The Winston Sectric mantel clock has a trapezoidal and geometric style with black accents interposed with metallic segments typical of Art Deco design. The composite object is likely to be made from brass, glass, plastic and Bakelite, crafted using a variety of techniques such as sheet metal rolling, float glass manufacturing, thermoplastic injection moulding and phenol formaldehyde casting respectively. There are a number of small brass spheres of varying sizes that were possibly manufactured by shotting. The top brass plate has been personalised with hand-engraved text, a burin potentially being the tool used. The time piece was originally fitted with a wind-up mechanism, which was later replaced with a battery-powered Junghans Quartz W738 movement.
